Crash Bars & pannier bars on a TA with a Remus ??

My mate came over to see me today on his brand new bike (NOT a TA). He only stayed a few minutes, & when he left, he dropped his bike (before the engine was even running) & did some fairly serious damage. That was enough to make up our minds about some crash bars & side panniers.

Looking for some 'best option/model' advice on crash bars for a 2006 TA.......not looking for "off road" protection...........nor expecting it to 're-float' the boat if I/we are unlucky enough to go down at speed, but would be keen on fitting them without having to do to much structural degredation of the bike to get them on !

Also....has anyone any experience of fitting side pannier bars to a bike with a Remus exhaust ? I'm concious that it is quite a bit more bulky than the 'standard' part & wonder if it 'get's in the way of bar fitting or the panniers when mounted.

    cheers.........

Hi Mightdomaybe i Had a 1991 Honda Transalp and had GIVI Crash bars and Givi Pannier rails fitted to it . The pannier Rails were the WING RACK Type and missed the Remus by about half an inch to three quarters of an inch .I never had any problems with over heating of the panniers and i had the Transalp for 13 years .This was the 600cc Version so it would be a different fitting kit. P.s. I tried to send a Personel Message but it would not send got the S.A.E. fw750x Francis

Mine's a 2000 TA, same physical shape as yours. I love my SW MoTech crash bars, bike has been down (at low speed, on-road) on both sides and no damage at all, except of course to the paint on the bars - and even that is very tough indeed.

Easy to fit, no fiddling about with the centre-stand mount.

One of the previous posts on the Forum commented on the fact that the main engine bolt on their 'fit' was bit of a pain to 'crack'....any similar issues on your fitting ?
    cheers.....

Corrosion maybe? Wasn't difficult for me to undo any of the engine bolts, but they looked very "cloudy" from being sprayed incessantly with road cack. I can see where that might have seized them shut for another forum member.

But you can test this for free if you have a torque wrench. With the torque wrench, you are secure in the knowledge that you can tighten your engine mount bolts back up to Honda spec. So take the opportunity to undo them (with a mighty tool or not, as required) to see if yours are seized shut.

If they are not seized, then you won't have the problem you mention!

Oh, and when replacing the engine bolts after fitting the crash bars, I did of course take the appropriate anti-corrosion precautions that the Honda factory didn't bother with.

Hmm....thanks for that....as yet mine look like 'new'......not sure it's ever been out in the rain ! & seems to have spent most of the winter in a showroom, so probably a good time to get at it.
