Just when you thought you were all safe....

OK all, some of you have fitted 'high capacity reservoirs', chopped the cat, some have even gone to rejetting....

Now it's time to up the ante

I was baulking at buying a sump protector, partially for financial reasons, partly for aesthetics - I want the bike to look fairly standard.

Here's one I knocked up from a piece of 3mm alloy plate and a 2lb lump hammer.

Then there's the lever protectors, again the same lump of 3mm ally, again they won't offer the ultimate in protection but will help a little....

I just need to replace the barend bolts with either countersunk, or quality domed roofing type bolt's - to match the rest!

To the far left is the homemade PDA/satnav holder, a besopke bit of kit made from the galvanised plate salvaged from the back of a knackered gas fire.

Now onto the 'Sh*t Kit' - ftted, succesfully for the second winter, just prior to removal this evening.

Made from various bits of 2mm rubber fastened by self tapping screws and cable ties.
It really does do a fantastic job of keeping crap out of the front of the engine (where you can't get into to clean it off), the left hand radiator is also blocked off with the same stuff. The bike warms up very quickly and keeps a constant temp, even in the coldest weather.
The gauge only starts to rise when the air temp rises above 15*C and slow foward speeds.

    Future thoughts.....

There seems to be a lot of wasted space, between the inner & outer fairings, would make a useful storage compartment, don't ya think - waterproof's/innertubes etc???

Also, now with the cat has been removed, there is quite ammount of space that is dying to be filled......

    Watch this space

You just slow-up there Phil , give the rest of us time to draw breath !! I'm still recovering from light wiring trauma !!!

Good work , I just love high quality bodging.

I never noticed your "**** catcher" front end at our recent meet , I wish I had taken some mental notes of that.

You set a very high standard for all us other bodgers to follow keep the ideas flowing ...................
    2011 Triumph Tiger 800 - "Black Pussy" - MMMM Nice !!!
    2000 Suzuki DRZ400S - "Ol' Yella" - very bright
    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!

Oh, don't you worry about keeping the idea's flowing, there's a few more in there yet, Jack.

Of course, all these, just like all my other mods require payment of some kind to their originator (me).

    'liquid' assets greatly recieved

    You are the man Phil
You could take that thing into battle!,
i have gone about making a 250ml scottoil resevoir from a hand soap bottle stored neatly in the underseat bit out of the way,
if you're around London any time,
give me a shout so i can thank you personally for your words of wisdom.
As for your hand guards, do they hit the screen on full lock?
I have thought about the masses of room particularly on the left side panel, as it gets quite warm and is easily accessed by people other than me i havent thought of anything i could put in there,
cept maybe a can of tyreweld wrapped in a rag.

Nice job of the hand guards bud. Youve a good idea with the space we have freed up with no sub chamber. Maybe a toolbox bolted up with a padlock for tools/ tyre leavers. Weights going to be at lowest point and central for balance as well.

Bet you hav'nt thought of one particular use though of the exhaust system......A pasty rapped in foil stuffed between sump guard and front header pipe. By the time youve left your gaff and got south of sheffield your pasty will be toasty hot.

As a benchmark for cooking timings, it takes 20 mins at 56mph with your pasty wedged down the side of the turbo manifold on a scania 420

I like the handguard braces screwed into bar ends - nice idea.
As for the '**** kit' - pure class and a catchy name.

I've always thought Honda should of put storage compartments in the fairing, even the CB500S had them ferchristsakes!

They do look ideal for storing tubes don't they? Something you don't need to get at often (or never) (No... never say never or we'll all get tyres as flat as a jap's face this weekend) so you can bolt them shut.

Just about the right shape and size space for a battery, isn't it? It would probably need to be a gell one lying on its side but mounting the battery down low would be good for weight distribution and would free up additional (lockable and water-resistant) storage space under the seat.

The battery could be protected by a bash plate for anyone intending to go rock/kerb hopping.
