    Tyres (again)

I'm a bit hacked of at the moment. I've just been checking my tyres, and my rear one is down to about 2.5 mm. That's crap!! I got the bike at Christmas, and have done just under 2500 miles. It's the standard "death wings". I was expecting more. I don't ride like a loon, I don't do burn outs (are they possible on a TA?) surely it should last longer
Don't know what to go for when I have to replace it. I've checked out the tyre threads on here and Distanzas seem to have a good reputation, so perhaps one of those (or a pair?)

I got 3000 miles out of the back tyre with Trailwings, but only 2000 with distanzers, wouldnt buy them again. Going to try Meitzler next (I think)

    Re: Tyres (again)

That doesn't seem like many miles to get out of Trailwings.

Have you been doing a lot of two up riding with luggage which will increase the wear or a lot of motorway miles so the tyre is largely worn in the middle?

I fitted Michelin anakees recently and I really like them. Good grip although I don't know what the wear rate will be like.

I ride mainly solo and without luggage. Also I keep away from motorways - they're a bit boring. I reckon the back tyre will be bald by 3000-3500 miles.

That's the best thing about Trail-Wings, they don't last. There are so many good tyres on the market (Metzlers, Dunlop 607s, etc) there's no excuse for T-Wings.

    Re: Tyres (again)

I get about 10-11,000 miles out of a rear TW152 Trailwing. Lower graded ones like TW48 or TW42 give less mileage but also cost less, I worked it out once and it was the same miles per quid. I'm on Tourances at the moment (worn out 2, about to fit a 3rd) and they last about 12-13,000 miles.

The Africa Twin is unsual in that it wears out fronts nearly as quickly as rear tyres. But then it is the same sized tyre as a 125 trail bike doing 80-90mph everywhere.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

I find the same thing on my alp, I've just replaced the two after fitting them at the same time.
I found the trailwings wore quickly as well Fatowl. I got great mileage out of tourances.

    Re: Tyres (again)

Metzeler Tourances. Best tyre I've tried.Get 'em cheap from: www.moto-tyres.co.uk/

Used to love the Bridgestone TW47/48Gs (OEM) but they didn't last long. Between 3000 and 4000 (dependant on weather..... and mood!!)

Tried Continental Escapes; pretty good all round tyre... though I'll only ever have Tourances now.

    cheers
    Rob
