    Fuel Guage

    Hi People
Without draining the tank and finding out for myself, where would the needle on the fuel guage be before the TA runs out of fuel. Would it hit the stop and the cease to run a while after? Do they have some after the stop or is it panic station when it hits the red. Any views or experiences would be read with interest.

    Re: Fuel Guage

Yo dude, can't help you with the fuel question as mine's a 600 (it coughs a bit and ya just switch over to reserve ) Your best bet is to zero your trip when you fill it up. I always refill at about 150 miles, but there's a fair bit left still.

Out of interest, where in Kentishire are you ? I'm in Tonbridge.

I certainly hope so, as the needle on mine is resting on the stop below the red right now and the nearest garage is 8 miles away. From my experience you still have a reasonable reserve, even when the needle says you are completely empty.

    Hi VSN
I am sitting on the top of the North Downs just above Wrotham. I got about 175 out of it before putting 14 Ltrs in. I was driving like and old fart running it in. (well most of the time) I looked at some documentation on the bike that I received when I was looking around and it quoted "19 ltr tank and 3 ltr reserve". Buggered if I can find the tap! I suppose I'll have to strap a jerry can to the back and run it dry.

How's the Emerald Isle? When we last conversed, I was thinking of getting the bike. The beast has arrived.(or I went and got it). A dirty sort of red at the moment. Drives fine. Smothered in crap already. Oh well, that's what it's for. Had a top box fitted on it. That's good now I have moved it back to allow the rest of the seat to be used. Thought my wife or I had put on weight?. I thought Honda had it sorted? Got to knock up a front mudflap. I don't see any of those extenders for the TA.

Congratulations, prepare yourself for some serious fun in the months to come. The Emerald Isle is fine, rugged and wild, perfect for a Transalp, so you now know what you need to do

Chain oil next. Like the idea of a Tom Ketchup bottle lashed to the back?

aah that'll be mine then. Need a scotoiler 1st, and don't mount the ketchup bottle too high else it will overide the valve in the scotoiler. Otherwise dead easy fit.

As regards the tank, I have run mine to empty a couple of times now. It takes about 20.5 litres to fill to the very brim, ie just about running into the overflow when on the side stand. The guage points to the middle line thing in the capital E for empty when its empty, but you will get about 5 more miles when it 1st reaches there. I get 210 to 230 to each tank depending how I ride it (but it doesn't really make that much difference except at the extremes) and I nearly always ride it to practically empty - typical fill is 18-19 litres.

    enjoy your bike.

Cheers A. I just wanted to reduce the risk of embarrasment asking the AA to bring me some juice. The bike is what I expected of one of that type. Goes along nicely, pretty good on fuel. Cool. Must get a centre stand sorted out though. I am have a job giving a dealer 130 quid for something I think should already be there. Much rather do away with that lump of stainless that lives where the stand should be!

I did that at easter. There's a long thread on here somewhere about it. I was after fuel economy but to be honest it hasn't made much difference - probably just that I always now get about 53-55mpg instead 57mpg one tank and 47mpg the next. The other upside is a bit more power and torque right where you need it - in the 4-6,000rpm range. If you do do it be sure to check the mixture afterwards, coz no-one here wants to be laible for an engine going bang after you've done some mods that worked for us.

BTW Centre stand worth every penny even if they should be there in the first place, but then there is a whole load of things I could list that could be better on the TA.

    Hi Mate
Thanks for the info. Removal would be like feeding it a packet of
"Tunes" TM and checking the mix would be the most sensible thing to do. I'll wait till after the first service, and a bit then begin surgery.
