    New seat for a 650

    Hi,

This is my first post (after having a good look around)

Im riding a varadero 125 at the mo, but im getting a transalp off a friend in the next month.

The seat is a bit worn, and thought id freshen the bike up with a new one.

I want the standard seat (the new gray one)...

How much to pay and where to get it?

    Thanks,
    Brian

    Welcome to the forum.
Put a message on the wanted and for sale forum, I placed an ad there 3 weeks ago and came up with a seat. Missed 2 on ebay but they can go for silly money. All so try the free services were you fill out one form and it is sent to 200 breakers/dismalters, had one seat offered. I had been looking for about 6 weeks with no luck then was offered 3 in 2 days bit like buses! Good hunting

    Hi Tortoise,

thanks for that. Im not getting the bike till mid/late july. So i better wait till i have the bike before i start buying stuff for it (that transalp seat would look right on my varadero!)

I got a quote from davidsilverspare of £250(ish) - im not that desperate. I'll stick a wanted ad on in a few weeks.

What should i expect to pay?

David Silver will sell you a genuine Honda lowered seat for £39.95 (in the grey/black style that you want) but unless you really need a low seat I wouldn't bother - I bought one and found it uncomfortable.

I've just bought a standard, late-model seat (again, grey/black) from ebay for about £60 which I think is a fair price given what you've found they cost new. But as with anything on ebay, the more people there are bidding the more the price is likely to go up (I probably outbid other people off here - sorry, guys!). Other advice about placing a wanted ad here or searching breakers is good - decide what you're willing to pay first and be ready to haggle!

    Thanks for that!

I dont get the price discrepancy between the standard and lowered seat. Id have assumed the "lower" seat was a specialty item, thus more expensive, but then, im not a business man.

What keywords did you use for ebay? I tried honda seat/transalp seat/xl650 seat etc and didnt get much joy (just the old black one)

    Thanks again

At a guess I'd say that Honda produced far more low seats than there turned out to be demand for, and they offloaded them cheap on independent specialists like David Silver. There'll always be demand for standard seats as a result of damage, crashes etc so prices stay high.

I keep an eye on all TA stuff on ebay in case something interesting comes up. I don't restrict myself to the UK either - TA's are far more popular on the continent so a lot of parts come up in France/Germany and most sellers will send stuff to the UK for a sensible postage charge. Here's the link I use to search:

    http://motors.search.ebay.co.uk/tran...Z1QQsofocusZbs

There are no 650 seats on there at the moment but keep an eye on it regularly as they do come up from time to time.

    Hiya,

Ive just replaced my standard black seat with a lowered item. You can have the old one cheap if you like, but its black only, not the grey. Let me know if you want it, if not Im going to fire it onto ebay at some point (when I can be arsed)

High5 Alpine Rich! but im gonna hold out for the grey one. I wont be getting the bike for another month and a bit so im mostly trying to source one at this stage.

But thanks very much for the offer! Hopefully there's another Alpine Rich out there next month!
