Strange noise

Hello Folks

I've recently noticed a strange noise coming from my engine, a sort of pinging / tinny sound ( make sense ). A bit like a bucket of nails rattling around. It occurs when decelerating and/or changing down gear, around 3000 - 4000 revs.

I've only recently noticed it. Is this normal? I've been riding the bike for a year, and never noticed it before. I've checked the oil, which is fine! Am I in for nasty shock? Any pointers?

The only time I heard rattling from Twinkletoes is was the chain needing to be tightened.

How did you get on Billy, if the chain doesn't solve it it may be worth draining the oil and seeing what comes out in the mix.

When I read the first bit I was thinking "pinking" but that happens on acceleration and is caused by either a lean mix or over advanced ignition. But it can't be that on deceleration. Otherwise I am guessing so won't proffer any thoughts.

Thanks Mabel and Austin for the help. I checked the chain and had to adjust it by 50mm. I adjusted it 2 weeks ago before my little trip to Scotland. It looks like I need a new chain.

I will take it out for a run this afternoon to check the problem. I'll let you know how it goes.

Adjusting the chain solved the problem ...good call , Only problem is I now need a new chain and sprockets ( no adjustment left)

Thats fantastic Billy, glad it wasnt anything more serious in fact I have not long changed the chain and sprokets on twinkletoes and it was like riding a new bike

If you don't mind me asking? How much did the chain and sprockets cost ( supply and fit) and did you go for 'O' or the 'X' ring?

Hi Billy I think I paid £80 fitted and O ring but really not sure about that ( I just asked for new chain and sprockets took the bike in and they fitted them )
