    exhaust

i'm thinking about getting another after market exhaust for my 600 (99)

if i do do i have to change the jets etc?

    also can ne1 reccomend a decent 1.

as im quite a big bloke (6'4) the 600 is fine up until about 80mph but when i need the extra grunt it seems to struggle, the temp stays low so i'm just thinking that if i change the exhaust it mite make a bit of difference. also i think it would breathe a little easier if it was more straight thru.the standard can on the back feels like its really holding it back.
would a k and n air filter make much of a diff?

    Re: exhaust

You'll get no real improvement in "OOMMPPHH" by fitting an aftermarekt exhaust. The engines too low tune to be affected by simple changes to exhaust! The Laser Pro Duro I've got on mine just makes it sound better (maybe it sounds faster as well??).

Sorry to wee on your hopes / plans for more grunt.

As above - just fitting a can will do little - if anything for performance.

If you do want a bit more go for a can, free flow filter & set up on a dyno. Don't expect a rip-snortin'-fire breathing beast at the end of it all!

Service, new plugs and oil , check plug leads, Scottoiler and new chain and sprockets, DNA or K&N filter, MRA touring screen will make it a much smoother/better runner if not done already.

Arrow or Laser pro duro seem favourite, although I have been toying with a custom one from http://www.campbellcustom.co.uk/ . Already talked to the guy at London bike show excel 2007, he reckoned they get a tuneable/removeable baffle system up and running for me. Was thinking of 2-2 with balance pipe to give it more torque than power. You will struggle to get more than 60bhp after spending silly money on it and then you are going to loose MPG badly. Stock is 50bhp@8000rpm and personally speaking, they are better at being ridden quickly, shortshifting between 4500-600rpm to get them moving quickly then get what you can, cruising is best at 7000rpm.

To be fair so does mine struggle past 80 mph as well, mainly because it is a trail bike. If you want that sort of blasting power, look at a Triumph Tiger or Honda Varadero.
