    metzeler Tourance pressures

Just fitted another pair of Metzeler Tourance's to my TA. Last pair did 17,000 miles I will post some pictures when I find my camera cable coz off the bike the wear is amazing - the weirdest profile. I am surprised I could corner at all

Anyway, main point is I wrote to Metzeler to ask what pressures they recommend and its 29 front; 33 rear. Which is higher than Honda recommend for Trailwings and higher then I have been running except for the last couple of thousand miles..... and I did find running at 35psi improved MPG by about 4 mpg.
2001 Transalp XLV650. Faithful old friend still chugging away nearly 100,00miles
2007 Varadero XLV1000. Now you're torquing but sadly gone to another forum member. One of the best bikes - period.

    Re: metzeler Tourance pressures

When I first got tourances I used the standard honda recomendation 29/29 but I found the rear got a little warm so I increased it to 29/32 and 29/37 with a passenger.
So I suppose I concur with metzeler! I'm surprised to be so close to the what they say.

I'm fairly new to this sort of bike after 22yrs racing gp and stocksport fancied a change

The first set of Trailwings went in 3300 miles, so did the 2nd. I put a 3rd set on for a trip to Morroco - did 2400 miles on these - the front had 2mm left all over and the back was bald after 1600 miles albeit for about 3mm at the very edge - also the knobblies broke off due to the heat.

Didn't spend much time below 6000 revs might have something to do with this

A colleague that I used to race with also went on the trip but his transalp had Avon Distanzias and the bike was much more stable in and out of corners with predictable slides. They also lasted much better due to being more road biased - they slid round a lot when pushing hard in the wet though - If youve had 17000 miles your doing OK
