    New Bike...

Well the deeds been done. My trusty alp is being traded in for a newer Gti model with go faster curves and flasher bodywork and under the seat exhausts.

The dealer was more than fair on the trade in allowance on my alp. £2300 trade in with 16500miles on its back, and absolutely no haggling.

What have i bought ? a 2004 silver and black fz6 fazer. 3500mile on its back, looks like they have been all dry miles, 12 month warranty, 12month Mot. £3500 squid.

    Re: New Bike...

Well, horses for courses, I worked for Yamaha for a while and found most of their bikes bland, and lacking in character. Just my opinion of course, can't fault them, build quality is reasonable.
No good for me though, not the type of bike I go for, Bandits, fazers, Hornets leave me cold. The term "just a bike" springs to mind. Most of the guys on this forum are here due to having a certain flare for character, the @T being the most characteristic bike I've ever seen and all others are mere reflections of them!
The Fazer's a cracking all round motorcycle, very reliable engine from the YZF stable, tried and tested over the years. Reliable with reasonable build quality, paint can be a bit thin, but which bike isn't nowadays? Well, apart from Triumph! I moved to the Tiger as it was the closest I could find to an @T with a decent seat and the power the @T always seemed to lack.
Enjoy your bike mate, your choice, and ticks your boxes.

    Re: New Bike...

Im sorry to see the alp go, its been a great bike, and ive made alot of friends through xrv. Im going to be keeping an eye on what honda do with the next, if any transalp.

The reason more than anything for the alps departure was financial. At the end of this year I was looking at having the forks out to have the lowers powder coated, forks starting to show corrosion and the laquer has cracked badly, spokes tightened front and back, and that was providing none were seized. Rear rim was looking tatty with the pitting, New chain and sprockets. That along with the possibility of a further depreciation hit if a new alp turns up swung it.

I bought the alp a couple of years back for 2700 off fleabay, it was traded in for 2300. Not a bad loss in 2 years.

The alps never let me down, took me on my first local jaunt over the water (ireland) and got me through a flood in sheffield that a gs failed to get through. The fazers got a tough act to follow.

I have always maintained though that the alp needed to shed some weight and needed a bit more horsepower and a sixth gear to drop the revs back on motorway work. It will sit at 85+ for hours, and will take that punishment. Its not thrashing it, but I dont feel comfortable about it being up at the top end of its rev range all the time.
Ive found that with the fazer. A similar seating position, way more power, and a lighter bike.

See you all at the national, maybe I should park at the other end of the field though

Its been a pleasure being a member of XRV.ORG, your all a great bunch, and I wont be leaving, just taking a back seat so to speak.

    Cheers Paul

hope you don't regret your change. In saying that my wee brother has the older shape fazer and is currently somewhere around Glencoe in Scotland on it! lucky git! he loves it and has tried my @ and my older brother's @ several times but still prefers the fazer. Think his problem is the lack of power in the @. Well as i said, enjoy but don't leave the site as it is such a great place to hang out!
