    Tyre change

I'm considering changing to Michelin Anekke (front and rear) with a 130/80 on the rear (currently fitted with Bridgestone Trailwing 120/90). As I only use the TA on the black stuff (mainly motorways) is the Anekke a good tyre choice?

The Anakee is a superb tyre in the wet and gravel, if it's only motorway driving you want to do, I'm not to sure if it's going to be the most efficient tyre, as you will find that they wear very quickly due to the soft compound. I've found Anakee's the perfect tyre for my commute (twisty country roads with far too much gravel and pot holes), but someone else may have found a better tyre for motorway work.

Mainly motorways? That'll be a big NO to Anakees - they square off very quickly. I've got barely 4k miles on my rear one and there's not much left in the centre. I commute 250 miles a week, approximately half of which is on the motorway. So, around 2k motorway miles and it's square already!

It's the only tyre I've had on the TA so I can't recommend an alternative from experience (the Dunlop D607 is great on a GS, though), but I'll be going for the Conti Escape when I change next time (quite soon!) based on what I've heard about them.

I can highly recommend the Bridgestone BT45's (apparently what the police use) for road work, and I got in excess of 12k miles from my last set.

Ditto , awesome tyre with road tread pattern and dual compound tyre (harder in the middle) and they are superb grip on greasy roads, loads of confidence £64ish for the rear from watling tyres catford. loads on the shelf.

I am just about to put a pair of avon gripsters on mine as they are meant to be good. But I can't fault the BT45's. I will have more of these. Avoid the Metzeler ME33 and lasertec combo, crap wear rate and not so good cold, great when sticky and hot - not this country though.......not worth the money. For road bias only, BT45 everytime!

    Re: Tyre change

Just switched over to Avon Gripsters and can only say they are fantastic, but are still trail tyres, not road tyres, not had them in the wet, but if they are anything like when I had the XT500, they can only be the dogs danglies on greasy roads.

    Question Re: Tyre change

Reading the recommended tyres for the Transalp, I see Bridgestone Battlax BT-45 are the most highly recommended for road use. From the Bridgestone web site I see the sizes are 120/90 R17 64V rear, 90/90 R21 54H front. Is this the correct combination ?

    Thanks

Yes, whatever make of tyre you fit those are the recommended (standard) sizes, although some people fit a 130/80 rear for a variety of reasons including the fact that certain popular dual-purpose tyres aren't available in a 120/90 rear. Other reasons might include improved looks, slightly higher gearing, (possibly) increased lean angle. Or just personal preference.
