    Splitting a crankcase

Isn't as easy as Mr Haynes makes out (no surprises there then).

I've removed the exhaust and all the crankcase bolts, but the case is glued in place with some of Mr Honda's special sealant. How do I pop the case off without damaging it? Any ideas?

Try heating it with a heat gun. Usually find that that works best in these situations.

Last time I split an engine, many years ago, you'd whack it with a hammer.

Think nowadays, it would be more of a gentle tapping with a rubber mallet.

Check around the crankcase join for any purpose made 'pry points', usually a small gap or two that you can get a scewdriver blade in just to break the seal of the gasket.
