    MOT failure

Just been told my 2000 TA has failed it's MOT due to a leaking rear shock absorber.( only done 13k is that normal?) Anyone know how much a repair to the shock might be? I presume a new one is hundreds. I was really looking forward to a ride this weekend too!

My 04 transalp is coming up to 28,000 miles and rear shock is fine as far as I know. Just passed an MOT too.

Not sure about how much a new one is just had a look at busters and they range from£59 to £159 so depends on what you want.

You could always emigrate to Ireland where there is there is no legal requirement for an MOT

    Re: MOT failure

There are many Alps out there with original shocks that have done well over 30 or 40k miles no probs.

One querie, is the shock actually leaking?

If you apply WD40 or similar around the swingarm, to keep corrosion at bay, maybe the MOT guy thought it was the shock leaking?

How about giving it a good clean up (dry the oil) and say that youv'e sourced a used shock?

    Just a thought.
