    More exhausts questions

    Hi,

I have finally owned a bike long enough for it to become necessary to replace parts due to wear and tear! (that must say something about the TA) 4 years and 30k miles and the TA's std exhaust is finally rotted through. So what better excuse to replace with something a little nicer?!!

I have tried a search (honest!) and come up with the Arrow as the nicest looking (IMHO) due to the angle of it on the bike. However, I have only found it on a 600 here and I need one for a 650. I did a search and came up with part number 72606AO £225 here:

    http://www.ultimatelimit.com/product...794&P_ID=27782

I can't find any pictures though? I assume it is based on the same one as the 600 so may be the same angle? However, the 600 was not road legal and this is so I may be wrong?

Good price though....what are your thoughts?

*edit* I just checked out Staintune but they're £350!!

    Thanks

    Rich

I run an Arrow on my 650, baffle out, its an ace sound, with a bit more 3-5000 revs too.

Try B+C Express, www.bandcexpress.co.uk £246 delivered, fits in about 20 mins, taking the baffle out takes about 2 hours!!
They really were quick too, ordered Wed, arrived Fri.

    Hope this helps.

Just on this point, how long can we expect from the standard exhaust ?, my bikes also coming up to 4 years old and the exhaust seems perfect, as in no surface rust, altough I can't vouch for what it's like on the inside.
The last thing I want is for it to fall to bits on my trip to Timbuktu in January, I have compiled a list of spare parts to take, i.e. chain & sprockets, levers, cables etc., but have completely overlooked the exhaust

    Thanks Mudwiz.

Rainman, I would look at mileage rather than age, mines done 30k.

Mine has rusted through where it is clamped to the pipe from the bottom chamber - the chamber (under the bike) looks fine and seems to stainless?

Life of the exhaust depends on use, lots of winter use and little cleaning, the stock silencer will soon deteriorate, regular cleaning in winter and a coat of VHT paint before & after winter, the stock can will last ages. No worries.

Although the baffle tube fractured & came away from its mounting plate in mine - probably due to many Autobahn 'type' miles....

Can we have piccies of these new cans please

    Re: More exhausts questions

Every couple of years I take my end can off and scrub the rust off, paint it with anti-rust phosphoric acid solution (coca cola) and then spray it with exhaust paint.

7 years old - still original.

But then I don't wash the oily road grime off it so maybe that helps.

But the bike always looks dirty.

In that case it might be a bit late to tell you this......

I fitted a full Arrow system to my 650, meaning that I got rid of the subchamber at the same time. I ordered from Motoman in Germany (cheaper than B&C - see ebay item 300143817987) and the service was fantastic - I couldn't fault them in any way.

Fitting was easy and it looks good too. The only thing I found was that the exit from the Arrow can is closer to the centre of the bike than on the standard system, meaning that my legal number plate got decidedly singed/melted on its right hand edge. I solved that by fitting a slightly smaller (not strictly speaking legal, but it shouldn't upset anyone) number plate.

Performance is hugely improved, particularly in the mid range (as Mudwiz says) but I don't know how much of that is due the can and how much due to the system. I also fitted a K&N and drilled the airbox at the same time. For the first couple of days I'd pull out of junctions and have to ease back on the throttle as the bike pulled far harder than I expected - it really was that noticeable. A big improvement for two-up riding as well.

I run mine with the baffle in and it's slightly louder than standard but not much. If it takes 2 hours to get the baffle out I don't think I'll bother......it's been fine for 4000 miles.
