ticking sounds when taking off centre stand and when running at low rev

Whenever I took my 650 TA off its centre stand (engine off), I can hear some ticking sound from the front end of the bike. The sound also appears when bike running at low gear. I am sure it is not from the engine.

I have check all fasterners and they seem to be reasonably tight.

So now I dunno know what causes the sound but it certainly sounds like something is loss.

Second question: whenever I pull the clutch lever,I can hear some clutch noise but not when lever back in. Is it something to worry about at all ?

    Hi Lunlunzai
That ticking - is it when the engine is off but ignition is on? Fuel pump or similar maybe? Or is it the ticking sound with everything off that comes from hot metal cooling?
Second question - what's your chain tension like?
RD07a, reg in 2001, Black, heated grips, short screen, Scottoiler, Givi top box and panniers, DataTag, full Riky Cross crash bars, Baglux tank cover, Facet pump, mostly 200 miles to reserve and presently a lot happier since being loved up at Chad's hospital for sick ATs!

Don't know about the ticking sound but the clutch noise is something that Twinkletoes does and I seem to remember that alot of the transalps do it

Mine does it, especially when I first pull the lever in after starting. This has been discussed at length on the site before. I believe the concensus was 'They all do it.'

even when ignition is off, that is why I think some bits are loosen.

It is not the kind of metal cooling sound.

I had my chain adjust a few week ago at George White. The mechanic asked a lad (similar to my size) to sit on the bike then adjusted the tension.

Chain tension should be set without a rider on the bike but with the bike on the ground (or on a rear paddock stand).

Have you checked that your spokes are tight? They can make a 'tinkling' sound if they not, and they move against each other.

I have heard a lot of stories about chain being too tight and destroy the gear box so I let a mechanic to do. I told him what you just sent to me but he insisted that is a better way. He seems to know what he is doing.

    Will check the spokes!

I had a ticking sound as you discribe. Stand astride the bike, hold the front brake on tight and push sharply down on the handle bars with your body weight. If you hear that "tick" then your steering bearing is probably loose.
