Muddy, sweetie I have a question for you

More like Mr M does cause I don't know what he is on about

Can you remove the CAT on a transalp and replace the exhaust to give you more power also shorten the pivot links on the rear suspension to give you more height and suspension travel for off roading.

Would you have to remap the fuel system???????

I am getting a bit worried Mr Mabel has a evil look in his eye when he looks at Twinkletoes having seen your pictures

Yeah but Chris has found a way to make that Transalp of his look waay more interesting and funky He didn't mention extra power when I was admiring the beast at the weekend though (yes, I'm talking about his bike! )

    I'd say it was possible

Speaking of which, Madwiz, you still interested in those fork tops or has the conversation become a blur

Yes. Arrow do a complete system for the 650TA which junks the sub-chamber and the rest of the standard exhaust (you can retain the standard silver heat shield on the rear header, but you lose the black, lower heat shield because the Arrow system has no mountings for it).

I've been running one for 4000 miles or so and it certainly makes the bike more lively. I haven't had the bike dyno'd (although I should, to check the mixture...) so can't quote figures but in the low and midrange it makes a huge difference. At the top end, power doesn't drop off as early as with the standard system, but in reality Mr M is probably more interested in torque than top end power?

Re-mapping is what you do to a fuel injected bike so unless Mr M has a secret prototype of the much-discussed 2008 TA it won't need re-mapping. It may need different needles in the carbs to adjust the mixture but the TA runs slightly rich as standard and after 4000 miles with the Arrow system, K&N filter and drilled airbox my plugs are a perfect colour so I reckon it's pretty close. Others on here would recommend a dyno session to check the mixture after mods like this and I wouldn't disagree - I just haven't got around to it yet.....

I bought my Arrow system from Motoman in Germany (cheaper than B&C Express who also do them):

I couldn't recommend them highly enough - fantastic service.

    As they say!!

Wheeliebin had done the subchamber chop and linkage thing, Pigs.. done the chop without the linkage and other airbox mods. There's quite a lot of detail in other threads.

I'd like to do the linkage thing, maybe not more travel, but a lot more clearance. Not too worried about power, and I'm not intending to drill the airbox, just down to water/mud paranoia .

Wheeliebin, YES PLEASE, although I had forgotten, now I remember and I'd love them. Let me know how....

No it's not, otherwise nearly all BMW Boxers would fail their MoT! (fitted with a Y-piece to replace the catalytic converter and remove a flat spot)

Your comment applies only to cars - bikes are not emissions tested and all that's required is an exhaust that isn't, in the opinion of the tester, too loud.

Anyway, the subchamber on a TA isn't a catalytic converter.

plans are well under way for all bikes in the EU to be tested in the very near future, and as i understand it some MOT stations are already piloting the testing already in the UK.
