    upgraded head light bulb

Was riding at night under rain yesterday, I can hardly see anything so decide to buy a better bulb after work today.

    any recommandations?

I knew somebody put 100W bulb but would it be too hot for the bowl ?

I have heated grips on the Alp as well!

1.5 hrs later I will be in Halfords

higher wattage bulbs can melt the wireing and the reflector/lense, so be carfull, have you thought about a xenon kit? more expensive, but much brighter, and don't get as hot, have a look on ebay for a xenon kit

    similar problem this week-end

What's involved in a xenon Kit? (I'm a complete quiche with elecmatrickery)

Someone recommended Phillips Bluegold (or summat like that) as better light for the same wattage.
"Blessed be the cracked, for they let in the light."

"If at first you don't succeed, hit it with a bigger hammer!"

I don't think that can be a 'real' xenon bulb, xenon bulbs need special driveing gear to produce the high voltage needed to create an arc

not talking about hid are you?
the bulb is the same just filled with xenon gas and blue glass, but definitely brighter, ask hudders he thought the sun had come up at 3 in the morning.

I'm even changing the bulbs in my spots they're so good.

I run a 80/100 W bulb in a std. headlamp, and have done for ages. No problems, touch wood!

    Re: upgraded head light bulb

"It is a scientific fact that a person of around 45+ years of age, needs 10x more light to see with the same clarity as a 20 year old; installing HID lights in your car will address this problem."

The excerpt above is culled directly from the South African company that Littleport AKA Matt provided a link to. No offence Matt but it strikes me as absolute b*llocks. I'd love to see the research that they base such a ludicrous claim on! It seems that their website is full of quasi scientific mumbo-jumbo sprinkled with impressive graphs and far-fetched claims in a bid to impress the gullible. Take their assertion that Xenon bulbs' illumination is on a par with daylight. Really? This is what the Encyclopaedia Brittanica says on the same subject:

"Despite marketing claims to the contrary, HID headlamps' light output is not similar to daylight. The Spectral Power Distribution (SPD) of an automotive HID headlamp is discontinuous, while the SPD of a filament lamp, like that of the sun, is a continuous curve."

Just how bright do we really need our headlamps to be? Do we want to tan the necks of the drivers in front? Perhaps someone out there will market "Nuclear Fusion" headlamps that convert Hydrogen to Helium - now that would be daylight...
