    winter storage - preservation

Read somewhere on this forum about using vaseline on the rims ... I mentioned it for a flight mechanic, and he was not very impressed. In normal vaseline there is acids he explained, and thereby corrosion might occur. I was recommended WD40 instead and will go for some silicon spray on the plastics. What do you say ?

Vaseline works for me... just buy the acid free version!
An easy way to put it on is by dissolving it in some white gas and put it on with a small paint brush. It's nice and runny that way, so it gets everywhere.

I use ACF50 on my @ and ride all through the winter.

Give the bike a deep clean in the Autumn, apply a good coat of ACF50 EVERYWHERE, then give an occasional cold rinse to get the worst of the road salt off - then give another deep clean in the spring.........

You can buy it from ebay or various vendors online.

Waxoyl thinned with WD 40 - goes on like thinned down, acid free vaseline

I use the same timings for treatment as stormforce8. Ride all through winter up here in the salty north of Scotland, with the bikes only needing a minor bit of paint touch up after a de-grease in the spring.

    Propper job.

    Re: winter storage - preservation

I've tried WD-40, Waxoyl, standard oil but by far the best as recommended by stormforce80 is ACF-50. I ride all year, every day and the stuff has done a brilliant job of protecting my TA.

Never tried Vaseline though "No, honest Mr Pharmacist it's for the rims of my bike"
    F800GS ...broom broom yeah!!!
