    Baglux fitting

Has anyone tried to fit a Baglux tank cover to their 'Alp, picked one up at the Classic Motorcycle Mechanics show last week and am trying to figure out the best way to fit the thing. As there was no instructions with the bag I was wondering if there is any special techiques, I have heard that it's a good idea to heat the material and 'mold' the bag around the tank is this correct?, also where do you tie down the plastic 'D' rings. Any advice gratefully received.

    Hi Rainman

I had one and fitted it to a 54 TA. First polish the tank to make it smoother and the instructions said you can leave the polish on instead of buffing up. Ensure the tank cover is warmish so can mould easier to the tank. The D rings are located at the bottom of the tank sides near the carbs and the front loop round the underneath of the headstock. The last bit is the strap that locates underneath the tank mounting bolt under the seat. The instructions I had recommended letting the cover stretch in the sun then re-adjust the fitting.

Worked great and the map holder allowed a full detailed atlas to be held.

    Regards

Thanks Paul, when you say the D rings located at the bottom of the tank near the carbs, is there somewhere for them to clip on to ?, I can find nothing there to anchor the D rings, also not totally sure about leaving the polish on the tank without buffing, would certain polish's not have a tendency to dry into a hard powder over time and possibly scratch the tank ?. Really appreciate the info though, as I said, my bag came sans documentation.

The D rings should have a strap attached to them with a hook at the end so they locate on the rim of the bottom of the tank. I decided not to leave the polish on for the same reason - I used MER polish.

PM me your address and I'll send you a photocopy of the instructions in the next day or two

    Regards

Ahh, very good, you're right, there is a hook as far as I remember, I'll give this a go this evening and let you know how I get on, if I'm still struggling I might take you up on your kind offer of sending a photocopy of the instructions. I'll throw the bag into the tumble dryer for a few minutes this evening to soften it up and give it another go, following your fitting advice, thanks again.

    Re: Baglux fitting

On my Baglux cover the headstock strap is only just long enough. I also haven't managed to get what I would call a good fit - I can't get the hole for the filler to line up properly and the sides of the cover do ruck up where the seat slides on. However the cover is now more or less TA Tank shaped.

I got a bargain on ebay a few weeks back - a Pacsafe tank bag - RRP £130, I paid £30 . I need to fashion up a way of clipping the bag to the Baglux cover without compromising its waterproofness or security or obstructing the handlebars.

    Hi Austin

Mine did not fit perfectly round the hole but did line up. Loosening the fairing mounts while fitting helped sort out the shape then tightening up after a few adjustments. The seat part was OK though.

I bought the shiny blue metalic tank coloured version, not that the colour should influence the shape but the outer layer felt much harder than the matt, mottled finish of the normal Baglux range.

Hmm, Baglux were knocking them out at 55 quid a throw for the Transalp at the show, I thought it was fairly good value.

    Re: Baglux fitting

Beware when fitting, I bought a brand new tank cover for my 56 TA and encountered a problem with the front bag clips fouling the handlebars so that the steering lock would not work.

I had a long running (approx 3 months) e-mail battle with Baglux before they finally admitted that the cover was not suitable for the model & offer to custom make one for me.

I declined as frequent twisting of the clip had stretched cover sufficiently to allow steering lock to work and I couldn't be bothered with the hassle.

That's really interesting, I must admit, I didn't encounter this problem, maybe Baglux has altered the design as a result of your complaint ?. I'd like to thank those that gave me advice on fitting my Baglux, particularly Paul, it now sits on the tank like a well fitting glove.
