    Muffs

    Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good set of handlebar muffs to fit a Honda Transalp with handguards?

    Cheers,
    Biggy

Hi Biggy, I've not been able to find any that fit over the standard handguards but if you were determined you could always change the handguards to smaller ones

A couple of people I knew when I was couriering used hand-gaurds and made thier own muffs to fit over them. I think they used the sleeves from an old waterproof jacket and with the help of some velcro and a wire coathanger made them removable with a nice large opening. Mind you this was 12+ years ago

A mate of mine has a GS with handguards and has fitted large fur-lined ones that you sometimes see on Vespas and Lambrettas (that probably also have the leg blanket too).

I'll try to find the brand name.

I had a set from the type that fit onto GS's and they don't fit over the transalp handguards

Yep, not much good in a crash, but fantastic for keeping the wind/spray off your gloves. Doesn;t look pwetty but when did most couriers care about that!!!

    Re: Muffs

I bought the cheapest set that I could find on ebay,no idea what make. They were a very tight fit over the TA handguards. To make them a bit bigger I cut open the join in the muffs nearest your thumbs (does that make sense?) then taped over the reasulting gap with duct tape.Admittedly it doesn't look brilliant but they fit and they work well. You could always trim the handguards down just a touch.

Why do you need muffs to fit over the TA handguards? On a TA the handguards are purely for weather protection anyway, not for crash protection, so just take them off (one bolt each side) and fit muffs instead. In the spring you can swap the muffs back for the standard guards.

I think if the muffs will fool the levers and controls without the handguards
