    Passed bike test yesterday

Passed full test yesterday (not one fault) all i need to do now is sell my 125 and buy my friends TA.
Also contacted Trail Riders Fellowship and asked about using a TA for Green laneing and they say its too big too heavy and not suitable which i found a bit odd?

Here's a couple of Pics of it:

    Congrats on test Grendel.

TA too heavy for green laning?

Plenty people doing it already - see ride reports! Some good stuff on Google video too, just search under transalp.

PS: Haven't taken mine off tarmac yet. Last time I did some forest trails it was on a GS550 and some years ago.

    Well done mate!

Where abouts are you? It'd be great to hook up and talk about the merits of the TA, and other biking nonsense

As for the TRF, well, it depends what you want to do with it really. If you want to get up to your nuts in mud, then you can do it on the TA but you'll have to be really fit. The TRF would recommend something smaller and lighter, less impact, easier to pick up etc.

But the TA is a great trail bike if you want to get off the tarmac without getting up to your lights in ruts.

Green laning on an Alp? Depends on your skill level. It can be done, and the bike is very capable off road especially with decent tyres e.g. Conti TwinDuro. However, anyone new to off-road riding is well advised to start on something small 'cos it is way easier to learn how to do it properly and acquire the skills. Start on a big bike and you will spend most of your time simply trying not to drop the thing.

How I love the TRF party propagander (sp??) machine. They have their views, and their uses (I am a member), but they contradict themselves a lot. Speak on bike choice, and they seem to recommend enduro bikes, read their magazine, and major player ride scooters.

lol you trying to say that certain people in the TRF are so far up their own arse they have a rope round their ankels.... ooo

The Transalp is a great bike, no fancy crap and looked after lasts forever.. its still one the top ten RTW bikes which has to say some thing!

As for the TRF they do tend to take everything as the perfect option which is stupid, if weight and size was only issue then we would all be riding peewee's.. take your time and have fun, when you drop the bike (thats when not if) then you will learn what you did wrong, as the only way to learn is on a bike in the lanes.
