    Question Honda accessories...XL700?

    Hi All,

Been looking at a new TA, but wondering about the Honda accessories. Is OEM kit better/worth the money/hassle??

Thinking (IF I get the bike...) about heated grips as I ride all year on my 600TA and sometimes its darn cold! Never had em before and wonder how effective they are...?

    Center stand could be handy...

Would love some fog lights but no idea what the Honda ones look like.

The Honda "scuff guard" looks rubbish! Not sure what it's supposed to prevent. Just seen the Givi engine guard (an essential as I park in the street) which looks OK, providing it doesn't smash the mudguard like my existing guard did...

    Thoughts...opinions?

I think the honda heated grips are easier to fit than others, but I get the impression from other posts theres not much in it.

The honda luggage - panniers - from experience I wouldnt recommend - far better off saving up a bit and getting decent kit like metal mule or TT - I fitted the honda centre stand - straightforward enough but cant compare to others as I just went straight for the Hondas own - crashbars - Ive got the touratech - others can advice you about other brands - highly recommended and look good.

The Honda heated grips are very effective, but also very expensive.
I use heated grips from snowmobile. The price is about 1/10 of the Hondas.

I like Givi products. I´m sure I will buy the crashbars from them.

The Honda topcase is 45 litres and good looking.

I don´t like the sidecases. Looks ugly and is to small for my use.

I have two 36 litre Givis and will get the Givi holders for theme.

Centrestands I only buy Hondas. Expensive but never any problems with them.(gets caught in middle etc)

At exhibition in Paris there was an Transalp with Honda fog lights

Im sure there are lot of after market fog lights, Touratech etc etc.

Both the titan and yellow on the pics has same Honda accessory screen.
The plastic strip round the screen do not look nice. I took it of

    Before. with the plastic strip.

And after, without the plastic strip.

Givi do both a toplate for a box and a PL kit for panniers. As I have large and small GIVI panniers and a box, that's what I'm going for. GIVI also do engine bars which the dealer recommended, also a higher screen.
Honda do centrestands as previously shown and also a lower seat. I have a 28" inside leg and the seat height is shaky at best. With the lower seat fitted, the height is much better. When the suspension has settled, the seat itself has worn in and the tyres lost a couple of mm, it will be even better. My dealer is charging £55 for the seat, it should really be free for us shorties, but there you go.

I have just bought a set of GIVI bars for my 650, the instructions are just 4 very poor pictures and the finish on the bars isn't. ( Finished I mean )
Very thin coat of paint, I might use hammerite on them before fitting.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

Just got some prices back from my Dealer for the 700 Transalp accessories - Panniers £450-00 plus £100-00 for the panels !!!!, Low Seat £65-00, Centre Stand £175-00, i remember back in the good old days when a centre stand was included not an accessory !!!
Think i will be pricing up a Givi set of luggage at these prices....
