    XL600V front pipes??

OK Finally got my TA Friday night. And yes i have orderd a new screen to replace that horrible blue thing. But after washing and polishing my new beast i found that the front pipes conection to silencer and rear exhaust has rusted through. So have had to secure the heat sheald with gaffa tape onto belly pan to hold it on since the bolt has rusted off.

So the question is where is the cheapest place to get front pipes for a 1993 600 TA?

    Found these?
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Honda-XL600-V-...QQcmdZViewItem

Are they worth going for as a cheap alternative?
If so how many gaskits and other kit will i need to fit it?
Also they offer Copper or Aluminium gaskits what difference are they?

OK just spoke to J2 Honda and they say its roughly £132 for the front section and gaskets but it will probably cost that again in labour costs to get it fitted i guess?

Come on folks usually get a reply sooner than this

The pipes on ebay look fine. What's the problem with them? You will need one exhaust gasket for each header/cylinder. Copper or aluminium, does not matter; both do the same job. Not sure if you need a gasket between the collector pipe and tail pipe or even if there is one, but if there is it will probably stay in the tail pipe when you remove it.

    Re: XL600V front pipes??

Wherever a pipe meets another pipe there's a gasket. They are made of a sort of soft graphite. I recently bought one for the connection between the silencer and front pipe. It was about £5.00 from a Honda dealer. You might not need them though. They ebay pipes might look a bit rusty but I'm sure with a lick of paint they'd look great. I do mine every spring after going rusty through winter. The metal's thicker than you think and will take a good sanding down.
Taking off and fitting the exhaust is an easy job and a good opportunity to dismantle some of your bike and check it over. I had mine off at the weekend to turn my centre stand spindle round so I don't have to take the exhaust off to grease the spindle (the flange end doesn't go past the exhaust pipe). Just check when you put the exhaust back that the rear cyclinder pipe doesn't touch the engine case when you tighten up the bolts. This happened with me so I just held it off with a screw driver and rag to protect the paint.
Good tip: Whilst the exhaust is off check the alignment of the clutch cable. There's a little bracket that holds the adjuster, check the cable moves centrally when you pull it in and doesn't rub on the side of the tube it's coming out of. You can tweak the bracket with some mole grips. Makes your clutch cable last longer.

Had my silencer off recently, to weld up several holes in my 4 year old Mivv, (it rusted after 3 weeks....). The end of the collector box had also rotted off, had to weld on a new stub. I have never been able to get the graphite seals to work properly.....always seem too small for the pipe. I usualy end up cutting it in 2...

    Cheers

Its a standard honda front pipes connecting standard Honda silencer so should just slot in from what i can see. So i presume i just need two copper gaskets then then bolt off and bolt on. Might get some new exhaust bolts from Honda in case the old ones are too rusty to re-use.

If the screen is held on with those bizzare well nuts like mine is(a nut inside a small piece of rubber tube) they are a complete arse to get back into place.Perhaps it is the age of the rubber on mine,it's a 1988 bike.In the end I took off the top piece of the fairing to re-attach the screen.

You can get identical rubber plug fixtures made by Rawlplug from builder's merchants/plumbers/tool factors etc. These things get hard with age and can be a pain to remove or replace. If so, once you have got the bolt out, shave the thin flange off with a craft knife to make getting the screen off easier. The fixtures are fairly easy to remove from the fairing once this has been done. Before fitting new ones, apply a thin coat of silicon or rubber grease.
