    TA wheel rebuilds?

Went to tyre place today to get my front inertube replaced due to loosing air all the time. When I went to pick up the bike the chap say the reason was that the inside of the wheel had corroded and was breaking up inside which caused the inertube to snag and tare and that it’s a common problem with that type of wheel but he could rebuild the front wheel for £150 since it needs doing otherwise it will keep punchering tyres or eventually the wheel may shatter.

    If that true?
Do the wheels need re-build due to corrosion?

On a Plus note did my first bike mechanics today on my TA and fitted new manifold pipes and had to remove crash bars due to some of the bolting points on them had snapped so they where rubbing on fairing.

    £150 for a rebuild?

get the tyre stripped off and check it out yourself i suspect all this bloke will do is a quick wire brushing and tape up the inner well.

If the re-build includes a new rim and new spokes I'd say go for it - thats quite cheap compared to some I checked out last year. Haggon approx. £250 for new rim & spokes per wheel.

The rims on these machines do rot like you wouldn't believe if not looked after really well (and even then the rot will get in), on both the inside & outside.

    Just my tuppence worth.

From what I gather he will replace rim. He should know what he is doing since he strips and builds MotorX bikes. So £150 is not too bad. Mind you will have to be next month after pay day.

Also he mentioned that Road tyres (Metzner Lazortech 33) need to be a higher pressure than the recommended TA tyre pressure since there not dual purpose tyres?
Sounds a bit odd since surely tyre pressure on the TA is the same if you’re using the same size tyre each time?

I used him a few times, price is certainly very competitive, but make sure u check his progress constantly.

It took me 3 trips to him to get a pair of tyres supplied and fitted.

1st time, he ordered the wrong size.

2nd time, he said his shop is a bit of chaos so dont come til......bluh..bluh...

    3rd time, finally done.

Other than that, he is fine.

What rims & spokes (coated ? stainless steel?) is he offering you?

I am planning to do similar things on my rims when the current tyres needed replacing.

    Keep us posted

    Pass?
Not sure since i only went to get a new inertube and when i went to collect the bike he gave me the bad news but didnt go into detail as to what he would rebuild the wheel with. I'll bang him a e-mail and find out.
