    15 years.

I would get a new one.
If it were only a few years you would probably be ok.
I think the Highway code says 3 years. (BOOOO....).

But I think helmet safety has changed alot in 15 years.

If your after a good cheep Helmet.
Try Caberg V2 or Trip. Alot of us have them. £99.

My Arai say in that manual that it must be replaced after 5 years.

When I took my CBT a couple of years ago I was told that after about four years the exposure to daylight will have compromised the strength of the outer plastic layer. (Mine had been in my mum's cellar for ten years, so was deemed okay.)

I was also told that if a helmet suffers a drop from more than about three feet, it should be replaced. In other words, it's just had the knock it was designed for.

I find my Caberg V2 very noisy, but the drop-down sun visor is brilliant.

I read somewhere that the sweat and grease from the haed and hair causes the helmet to rot from the inside out.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

    Yes!
Ok in my Courier days 12mths or if used as intended i.e Crash. Its a bit like matches a helmet will save your head once and then you get another(helmet). The other rule is age and mileage 2/3 years without dropping it on the floor about 25,000 miles in UK weather. The wind buffeting as you ride slowly damages the outer shell, the inside lining weakens and also the noise levals increase so you go deaf. I have just bought a new Gold standard BSA marked FM Sabar from J&S for £29.00 so you don't have to send a lot to keep your nut in a as new condition-exccept Im now as bald as when as new condition first applied in 1965.
    Good luck
