    RH Crankcase Oil Seal

Anyone ever replaced the little oil seal that sits under the gear selector shaft on the RH crankcase? Mine has been weeping a small amount of oil onto the crankcase cover for months so I finally decided to replace the seal. The old seal didn't come out easily, and ended up disintegrating and needing to be dissected with a dental pick. The new seal was a bugger to fit - indeed I don't think it's seated properly because it's not flush with the groove into which it fits, and the so the washer that sits on top of it is stopping the spring at the top of the selector shaft arm from locating in it's little notch.

I guess I should have ordered a couple of seals in case this happened, but can anyone wiser in the way of the spanner tell me how to install this pesky seal properly next time.

    Ta.

    Re: RH Crankcase Oil Seal

I have replaced these kind of seals in the past and find if they fiddly, it sometimes pays to get a piece of plastic pipe, the same diameter as the seal. Smear the outside of the seal with oil and tap it in sharply.

The only other suggestion is to put the seal in the fridge to give it some rigidity, as rubber is oil based it will stiffen.

Thanks tizzi - I got there in the end with the help of a home made seal puller consisting of a chunky bolt and a spacer sitting between a nut and a washer the same size as the seal.
