    650 swingarm bearings

    I may have posted on this subject before.

    Don't remember.

    Did the swingarm & linkage bearings for the second time today @ 31k. Last did them about 3 years ago.

    Ignore what the Honda manual and Mr Haynes say: To get the shock out means removing the tank and the swingarm. Now I remember why I didn't take the shock out last time.

    Christ some muck collects down in the engine room. After cleaning it all up (a bit) I found that the last grease I put in was now like earwax. The right hand side swingarm bearings can't be stripped without removing the dust seal & circlip - means new parts so I stuffed new grease in from the side as they rotated smoooooooothly.

    Getting to some of the bolts with a torque wrench is impossible so I best-guessed it.

    Shiney-shiney. shame to get it dirty again;

    Do Transalps come with enough grease from new?

    Does a bear sh1t in the woods? (Not if it's a Polar bear!).

    Bring it round if you like. If it's a clean up & regrease, no probs. But if you need new seals/bearings your bike will have to sit in my garage in bits 'til you get the parts. The only tools I don't have are bearing pullers/pressers.

    That's not you selling the TA in the local paper is it?

    It is, but i've changed my mind. I just finished a major service on the ol' nag, and she's sounding brand new again!

    Suspension might be more than just a clean up and regrease - some play has been picked up at my last two MOT's. Since i'm holding onto her, I reckon some new bushes and bearings are a worthwhile investment.
