    How much difference in grip?

OK I have Metzler ME33 Lasertec fitted to the front of my 93-Transalp and a Tourance fitted to the rear. The front wheel needs a rebuild so I was thinking of changing the front to a Tourance as well so it is a matching set. How much difference will it make for daily road riding in all weathers? The reason for changing is if I take it off-road, the Metzler ME33 Laser is liable to ditch me on any patch of mud I would have thought. However, with a Tourance on the front, I may stay upright more but how much will it affect the handling in the wet on tarmac since I use the bike 90% on the road.

Alternatively, would it be more sensible to just leave the Metzler ME33 Lasertec on until it needs to be changed since it’s still got plenty of life in it but it has been on the bike for the last 5 years with the bike tucked up in a garage unused. According to the tire garage its still ok/safe.

Keep it until it needs throwing away. Don't change it for a Turance for fear of mud. Tourances are not mud tyres.

If you are going to take the TA onto mud then I reckon a Pirelli MT90 should be a bare minimum of knobbliness, and I'm sure the closet enduro hounds on the site will recommend even knobblier monsters (Trelleborgs anyone?).

Tourances are good for mild off-roading (gravelly farm track type of thing) but I wouldn't be surprised if an ME33 could manage that too; the ME33/55 pair on my old BMW F650 could.

I was wandering about that since i doubt i'll be doing more than gravel farm tracks. Must admit I do fancy a go at some of the Ridgeway on the bike. I supose that shouldnt be too bad i would of thought
