    aarrrggghhh!!!! rim rot.

anyone else have this problem? just noticed my rear rim is starting to split.
only a little (about one inch) part of the rim is lifting but the bike is a '98 Alp so not very impressed about it.

well mines a 94 TA and the front is getting a bit of rot. i was told to clean it up gently then dry it and put loads of clear nail varnish on it or gold if you want it to match

Yep, mines a 2001 650 and last year alloy rot took hold around the valve hole. I opted for a rebuild rather than mess around with nail varnish or plastic metal.

I had rim rot once.... antibiotics sorted it. No, seriously though, Transalps and ATs suffer from it. I once left my bike in the shed over Christmas for 2 weeks after coming home from work. The rear spokes and rim were knackered. I should have washed the bike down. I use clear waxoyl on the rims over winter.
The rear rim seems to suffer the worst corrosion.

Yep my TA is off the road at present since the front wheel has gone for a rebuild £200 new rim & spokes.
They recon 2-3 weeks before i get it back so i'm missing all the nice warm sunny weather today...

Yep, very common.....I've replaced both wheels on my '94 due to rim rot...Gold rims seem to be the worst

oh heck! this is not good. would have thought Honda had got over this problem by now?
both my MTX200's suffer from it but they are 25 year old bikes now. rear rims seem to suffer the most as thats where the MTX's have it.
