Been thinking about replacing my scuffed handguards for some time, read some positive comments about the KTM plastic guards which work out quite a bit cheaper (£36ish) than the alloy type. Couldn't find anyone who'd tried fitting them so thought I'd have a go....
The guards come with clamps to fit both fat and normal bars, as the angle of my bars was different to the clamp I opted to use the fat clamp and fill the gap with something squishy. I was also replacing the grips so cut up one of the old grips to provide a couple of short sections of rubber to fit between the fat clamp and the bars.
The only slight issue is that on the right hand side the brake hoses prevent the guard from being rotated any higher. There is a small lug cast into the reservoir which prevents rotating the hoses any higher, easy to cut off but for now I decided to leave it.
Overall I was very impressed with the quality of the KTM guards, they fitted pretty well and most importantly look way cooler than the Honda originals.
I would imagine they're not as strong as the alloy framed guards but then they were a fair bit cheaper, plus I'm part way to riding a KTM!
Cheers
David
