    12volt honda socket

    Hi all,
I had the genuine Honda Quartet harness and 12v socket fitted to my new 700 Alp. The dealer fitted this under the left hand side panel on the genuine Honda mounting bracket. Noticed that the rear of socket and both leads had been sheared off. What scares me is that the bracket is only 3cm above the chain and am wondering if its the chain thats written the socket off when swinging arm pivots? Anyone else had this problem?

Go to the dealer and ask him to solve under warranty, no point in tinkering yourself when you paid top money for a genuine accessory fitted by an official dealer.
Should they refuse to comply/ask money for fixing it/"they all do it" ask them to write down a report, keep the original for yourself and send a copy to Honda UK together with a couple of pictures and a brief description of the problem.
That should work. Keep us posted.

Honda need to choose the socket mount points better.
Bought one for my 650 last year - it mounts under the seat in what was the air box on the 600. This keeps it nice and clean but you can't fit the seat if anything is plugged in.

    So it's CR4P!

    Thanks for the info.....
The guy at the dealership are going to sort this out. I will mention not under the seat!
Lets hope Honda stick to the "Hate something, Change something, Make something better!" motto.
I still find it strange that the R and D people didn't spot this potential problem. Another pain with the positioning is that, If you do have the Sat Nav power lead connected the plug is sticking out at left ankle level.....real user friendly.

Anyone seen the Sun yet......Stroll on summer!!!

can't understand why they dont fit it on the dashboard, left in front og the handlebars. That is a really nice spot on the 600. Believe i had a previous post on the socket. I made switch for it, which i fitted in the toolbox left of the seat ... all fused and everything. Great for charging the mobile or light if engine should stop.

Write to Honda UK commending the dealer and asking why the Hell did they put such an expensive bit of kit there...

    Re: 12volt honda socket

I've got the original (horrendously expensive) socket under the seat on my 650. Looks nice, but totally unusable as the seat won't go in place if something is plugged in.

My solution was to buy an extension cable for 4 €, disassemble the male end, saw about 15 mm off its end, reassemble and finish with silicone. This way it is possible to power my GPS while riding.
