TA 650 - Idle Speed

Just a quick question, had the bike for 2 weeks now & commuting into & out of Manchester... Very impressed..however...

Whats the normal idle speed at standstill? mine ticks over at 1500rpm when hot, this seems a bit high for me. but i hear they run a bit lean, if i start turning down the idle speed will this mess up cold starting? or is this just a new engine settling in & will improve with running in/age?

Re: TA 650 - Idle Speed

My 650 ticks over at about 1300, unlike a 4 cylinder which can tick over at 1000 the twin seems happy.

Re: TA 650 - Idle Speed

My bike ticks over at ~ 1300, unless the engine is extremely hot (i.e very heavy traffic) then it seems to rise to around 1600.

mine is 1200/1300rpm. easy to adjust, there is a down facing adjuster on the left side of the bike, as you sit on it, coming form the carb.

Re: TA 650 - Idle Speed

Have set mine to 1300 - 1500. Any lower and I have found cold start to be a problem.

Looking forward to some warm weather to see if it can go lower!

Re: TA 650 - Idle Speed

mine just over 1000 and works nice.no problem at all for cold start.when i put a k&n air filter few months ago the idle speed riced a bit so i had to lower it down because the 1200 is too high for my ear.1050 is enaugh for my bike.

Re: TA 650 - Idle Speed

my tickover's about 1,000, under if anything. But it feels a bit slow and needs holding on the throttle for the 1st minute or so from a cold start. I plan to turn it up a touch - about 1100 to 1200 would be right IMHO.
