    Bad vibration....700 Transalp

I know this may seem a weird thing to do, but tonight while out on the bike, I let go of the handlebars and they shook like mad when the speed dropped to about 25mph. I remember having a new Varadero when they came out in 1999 and it turned out to be the front tyre that the dealer replaced with a Michelin T66 at that time. The bike I have is new (500 miles) and is fitted with Trailwings. I would like to here if anyone else has experienced this. It will be going for its first service soon and I will mention it to the dealer.

I'll check for you later on mine, however in my experience all the bikes I have had do this at one speed or another - when you are holding on to the bars even lightly you don't notice any vibration

I guess the moral of the story is not to let go of the steering!

I prepare race cars, and with their very direct steering ( as opposed to modern PAS cars) you get the same effect with the steering wheel oscillating at a certain speed if you let go, but no vibration with the damping effect of you holding onto the steering.

Sometimes happens to me and with TrailWings too... specially with TopCase mounted.

Mine does it as well. So did the Deauville before that and the CBF before that. I read somewhere it has something to do with the size of the steering head bearings Honda use. That and the topbox and panniers I would think.

I just mounted my Givi V46 topbox for the first time last night. This probably has upset it. you do not notice it when holding on. thanks for your help and i will try without the box.

When I brought my '05 Ta brand new the stem nut was little more than finger tight, allowing the steering bearing to work loose. I think the stem nut should be 105nm - about 80 lb/ft in old money.

I think someone should see if there is any steering wobble at 100mph with hands off the bars

    bags not.....

Therse bikes are new, therefore I wonder if they have balance weights on the wheels or not. Sounds like unbalanced wheels to me.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

An aweful lot of machines will have a slight wobble when a back box is fitted - nearly all of mine do it, with the box empty or full.

If the bike did it without the back box fitted then yes, get the head race bearings checked by the dealer. If it's just with the box fitted, live with it and don't let go of the bars - simple innit!

    Just my tuppence worth.
