    What to do

My TA is due the 24000 mile service.
Do I take it to the Dealer who has serviced it from new or do it myself.
It is the big one, so I was thinking let them steal from me for this one plus MOT and then start self service next time.
Sensible answers hoped for except from LV.

What I tend to do is put the wifys TA in to the Honda gods for the large services such as valve checking and carb balancing then do the intrim servicing my self.

Depends how good you are in spannering.

For me, I would get a decent independent shop or mobile mechanic to do it.

    Re: What to do

In my opinion valves are virtually impossible. Others manage though. Carbs are a doddle to balance if you have a balancer. Buy one and save a fortune. Everything else in service terms is dead easy and most of it is just checks you should be doing regularly anyway or stuff you would do when its needed it not just coz the calendar or mileometer says so.

Not a recommendation but my valves haven't been touched - ever. 55,000 miles and counting

Thanks, It seems most of you think along the same lines as me.
I just thought that as it was bought from Dobles and every service up untill now was done by them if I let them do this service as it is valves, oils and filters change coolant and brake fluid and brake seals and everything else, I will then have another 24000 miles to fettle with it myself.
I always thought the service was like the MOT to make sure the vehicle was in a reasonable state, as some owners just run them into the ground, and the service is the only way things would ever get checked.

That's if they really check the valves..........

I bought my 600 new from them. At the break in service they overfilled the oil - it was up to the max whilst on the sidestand.

I vote for getting the spanners out.

    +2

I taught myself spannering on the TA, and there's not much I wouldn't be prepared to have a go at. The only fiddly bit is the valve clearances, and they get easier with practice

Stumpy, I've struggled all day to think of being nice about 'Dobles' Service Dept. They got good bike sales and good accessories shop both helpful but Service dept. Bought two bikes from them service dept. only let down.
