    Question Tyre summary

Well the subject of tyres has been done to death, but I thought I'd post a summary of what I've read and add a poll so views can be expressed in a easily seen way. This is my first poll so I might need to edit it a few times....

If anyone has corrections to the summary, let me know and I'll edit it for ease of reading....

Continental Escape - Not well used, but well regarded by those that have used them. Long life, good grip

Michelin Anakee - Expensive but well liked. Grippy but not long lasting

Bridgestone TrailWing [OEM] - Expensive for their life [short] expectancy

Bridgestone BT45 - Road use only, well liked, grippy reasonable life

Avon Distanzas - Generally not liked, poor grip and but reasonable life

Avon - Gripsters - Well liked but restricted to a small number of sizes [doesn't fit 700]. Grippy, good life

Metzeler Tourance - Well liked but not well used Off-road ability limited. Good life

Dunlop Trailmax D607 - Off road ability limited, good on-road grip, good life expectancy.

    Re: Tyre summary

I know the Avon options are missing from the poll, sorry about that!

Once I've worked out how to get it fixed they'll be added.

    Re: Tyre summary

I'm currently on Tailwings, but have a service in two weeks so will be getting them to change the tyres then to something with wet grip!

    Re: Tyre summary

I would like to change from Trailwings soon as they dont inspire confidence when cornering. They seem to want to break away

    Re: Tyre summary

I'd like to ditch the trailwings too - on the 700, so 19 at front and a 130 rear

on a dry hot day they are fine I have loads of confidence, however if cold or at all wet the rear is sliding when banked over

also with the drier weather and more confidence in the bike I've noticed the rear has started to really wear, I can't see the rear lasting that long

thoughts on a road only tyre anyone?

From what I've read the BT45 seem the ones to go for.

    Re: Tyre summary

I've got Tourances now, I have also used Distanzers and Trailwings.

I find that the Tourances are by far the best, they have lasted for ever and I find them really grippy in most conditions. I have even gone to some muddy places on them, they did slip around a bit but I only fell off once.

    Re: Tyre summary

I have had 2 1/2 sets of Tourances. Front and rear wear at about the same rate and I have had 12,000(rear only), 17,000 and 12,000 (including Morocco). Grip is generally fine but they do get very twitchy on white lines and stuff as they wear, but I never felt confident in the wet - vague feelings and lots of little twitches. Now on a set of Dunlop D607 (1,500miles in) and these feel really planted and much more confidence inspiring in the wet - never a twitch or vague feeling ever. How long they last is another matter as I couldn't imagine anything bettering 17K.
