Transalp 650 starter motor

Please Help I think my transalp starter motor has died. when turning ignition to run position battery drops to 0volts. but when starter disconnected battery not being pulled down.
I have metered the starter and it is reading aprox 0.2 ohms Anybody know what it should be??? or could it be the solenoid????? anybody know how to test the solenoid???

realy peaved as just got breaks done for MOT tommorow.

When you say you're getting a voltage drain with the ignition on, is that without touching the starter button ? If so, it sounds like a short somewhere else.

How are you disconecting the starter motor ? Is it at the rear of the motor or at the battery ?

As far as I know, (which ain't a lot on electrickery) the batteries current goes though a one-way diode before getting to the starter, to kind of stop this sort of thing.

voltage drain is when presssing starter button. i have disconnected starter motor from starter solenoid. this however dose not rule ouit the solenoid as with starter disconnected there is no voltage path from the solenoid

What shape is your battery in?

sounds like your battery is dead, and doesn't have the power to turn over the motor. try charging it up. might be that it's not dead, just flat.
