sw motech crash bars do i need to remove sump gaurd

    Hi All
Just acquired a set of sw motech crash bars cause got tired of waiting for graves to get back to me... had a quick look last night and it looks to me like the sump guard will have to come off to get the bottom brace to locate against the frame... I know plenty of you on here have them and the instructions are somewhat limited ..if someone could give me one or two pointers or point me to the relevant threads that would be great..

which bike? I have some Motech crash bars on a 2001 650 and they fit round the sump guard fine - in fact I can't quite picture how they do fit now - them having been in place untouched for over 2 years now but I don't recall any sort of issue. No pics to hand I'm afraid.

The bits I couldn't get to fit back on with the crash bars in place was the plastic radiator guards but decided they didn't do much anyway and not having them is one less thing to deal with when removing the fairing.

Thanks for the info, i found some instructions by severs and you austin which were very useful especially on putting the really long bolt through gettin the right spacers on the right side etc they took about an hour to fit were a bit fiddly but look ok on the bike cause i have this sneaky feeling i'm going to need them at some point lol ...

the dangerous period is when theyare in the garage waiting to be fitted, once fitted you'll be fine

A piece of advice. If the allen bolt underneath the sump dish (the plastic "sump guard" plate) is in poor condition, don't just re-use it, even if you planned to grease the thread when you put it back in.

Instead, get a stainless bolt the same size (I think it's M6 but it might be M5, can't remember) and a washer and use that. Grease the thread. Those factory bolts seize in place in salty winters.

Thanks for the advice mate! the bolt was not in bad condition really just starting to get a bit of flash rust on it so i copper slipped it and put it back in but after what you said i think i will probably stick a stainless one in cause it IS right in a place where it will get wet often so cheers for the warning mate....
