    Oxford Hot Grips

When I bought my TA, I thought the battery was a bit suspect but agreed with Ecosse Honda in Aberdeen to try and see... Since then I have fitted Oxford Hot Grips connected directly to the battery. This was about a month ago and I had no problems until about a week ago. Now if I use the grips the battery is flat when I restart.
Ecosse Honda say the grips are drawing too many volts and there is nothing wrong with the battery. Sounds like b*ll*cks to me as they don't want to provide a new battery.
Has anybody else had problems with Oxford Hot Grips?

    Martin,
I figure that what it sounds like to you is totally correct. I am none too technical about electrickery, I am sure that some gooroo will be along to stifle you with science on that score..but...01 TA with the self same Oxford Heated Grips, which by the by I find real good, I wired them in ( with the help of info on this site for which I am thankful ) via a relay and zero trouble with the battery. thats even throughout the winter with all lights all the time, grips almost all the time and no battery problems.
Hope you get round it ok.
    Chris.

Take it back. Either the battery is stuffed, the grips are draining it, and it's not taking the charge from the alternator; or the alternator is stuffed and not charging the battery. Either way, they should be doing something about it. I've got the Oxfords on mine and there's no problems.

I fitted Oxford heated grips to Sharries TA. The Oxford grips had a push button style control board, any way what we found out was that if the battery voltage dropped the grips would automaticaly drop out such as using auxillery spots. But under normal operation lights on eyc the grips work fine and I am always in her good books. Going back your your question sounds like your battery is either phucked or your charger not working.

How many watt does your gripp yuse ?? I have mounted the SnoPro heater`s. They yuse 20 W. And the Alternator delivers 400 W. so there realy should not be a probl.

The trottle control is in plastic, and isolate the heat from the bar. On the left side the heat goes straight into the bar.

    Re: Oxford Hot Grips

    Hi,

My Oxford grips are fine when the bike is running.

However after leaving the bike in the garage for a couple of weeks I often find the battery is pretty much dead and a charge up is required before I can start the bike.

( I have an SV which I can leave for 3 months at a time, and it always starts first time....so can only assume the grips are draining the battery in some way).

Yes, they are telling you ********. I have Hot Grips fitted (exactly the same type as yours, direct battery attachment). They won't drain an healthy battery, no matter what. But a battery on its way out will easily get drained of juice. Hence ask for a new, proper battery (ie Yuasa).
