flip screen or touring screen ?

Hi folks, after riding around in this wind, i decided to finally get a new screen, but im stuck with a dilemma, flip screen or the proper touring jobby?
The flip ones look better but honestly are they any good, the big screens will no doubt do the job but they look too girly.......

The deflected wind from the standard screen hits me straight in the visor which is now really doing my head in - literally! I commute down the motorways on a daily basis and my neck needs a rest!

i've done just over 2000 miles now, im really getting into this biking lark!!!

Cheers for you help AGAIN !

    TA
I am trying to get rid of the buffeting, tried big screen from busters with a flip in it, only £35. It is very tall and makes you realise just how far the bike is lent over, nearly shat myself, and there is still loads of buffeting.

Took screen off all together, bloody marvelous, quiet, no buffeting but looks crap. Tried cutting down original screen and refitting but still get a bit of buffeting .
I need some sort of screen to close up the holes/gaps in the fairing but not sure how to do it.

I met the irish clan when they came to Scotland a couple of months ago, they said the £100 vario (not sure if this is the correct name)screens with the adjustable second screen worked well. Pays your money....

Perhaps the idea of a second small screen that can be adjusted is the answer?

Just thought, I never got buffeting from the screen when I used to have a sports bike, maybe a buble screen smooths out the air flow into chest, kind of sucks the air back down to the bike, I dunno.

Need to get a book on aerodynamics... yawn...

    Off to pub...

I use one on my TA 650. Pretty crap really, I have tried a number of screens now and I reckon most need a proper flick on the screen to push wind over your head. I had an excellent one on an early TA 600, crusie at 80 with little noise or buffeting.

Re: flip screen or touring screen ?

Hi There, Im using the givi screen on my 2007 650, I find it does give great protection but terrible buffet at speed, especially when following big cars,
However i did a little experiment and tried every helmet I could lay my hands on- I was astonished with the results, it makes a huge difference to the buffeting, My KBC which is the best on an unfaired bike is the worst on the alp it shook so much I came home with a headache, I tried a nitro flip which is total crap on an unfaired bike and it was fantastic, I have tried many others and it seems to make almost as much difference as changing the screen itself, I currently use a HJC FS10 and it seems to be both smooth in the airflow and quiet too so Im sticking with that for now, well worth trying out a new lid at speed if you can borrow one before you buy. steve.

Hi Stevie, i'll give it some thought and try what lids i can, im still tempted by the MRA touring screen, i've read somewhere that if xrv.org is quoted when booking we'd get 10% off - gotta be worth a try......

And a huge difference in price between the two of around 200 quid! IKWM about the buffeting as my Shark Air is a pig compared to my last helmet, the name of it, sadly, escapes me!

Re: flip screen or touring screen ?

    Dominic-
Just replaced the tall screen on my 04 TA with an MRA Vario- and am very pleased. There's much less buffeting, and I'm 6'2'' and there's plenty of wind down here in Cornwall! I've tried original screens, tall screens, taller screens and Touratech clip-ons on various BMWs and a Tiger and the split-screen Vario idea seems to work best.
