Hi old giffer some of these soft pannier frames look neat enough but I wonder about thier strength, so I made my own from mild steel bar,cost was next to nothing in materials,just my time if you or anyone else would like an E mail pic. for ideas I will send one.
I tried several times to upload pic's to the site but gave up in the end!!

Simplest if I just explain how I made mine.

1. my though process. When I bought the soft panniers I wanted to stop them flapping and keep them off the Exhaust.
2. Available raw materials. I had 3 x 1m lengths of 24mmx2mm ally strips, and some odd lengths of bristle strip used to seal bottoms of doors. http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/f...hotos/Ally.jpg

3. Design and construction. I designed as I went, first fixing one end of a 1m strip to the RH footpeg hanger, bending by hand 90degree into the Numberplate, giving enough clearance for the exhaust. Took out the top 2 bolts from numberplate, pushed ally between numberplate and mudguard. Simialr for LH side, but less clearance needed. Drilled ally and replaced bolts. Drilled and rivetted ally where they overlapped.
Now found long sections of ally a bit bendy, so reinforced with sections of backing for bristle strip. added uprights going up to rack, not fixed to rack just jammed in. Next fitted small bolts into channel of ally, so the pointed down, fitted plastic pipe of correct size(micro water feed pipe from greenhouse irrigation system). bought 4 elastic band designed for tents to hold the panniers to the rails.

I fitted panniers as far back as I could as my wife was coming with me, My design would allow moving them further forward if travelling solo. This would allow indicators to be more easily seen from the side. in the obove photo rain covers fitted, but rain entered bags from spray off the wheels, so pack in plastic bags.
I have now removed the rails as they can easily be bolted back on as needed.
