Hi there, welcome to the site, I have a 12V thingy fitted to my transalp. Jay (my better half) fitted it for me so will get him to have a look at this thread when he gets in tonight.

I fitted the (expensive) Honda 12 V socket as per the instructions, under the seat, LH rear corner of the storage box. I then bought at a car accessory shop an extension cord with two outlets and a cable lenght of 1,2 metres. Cost approx. 4 euros. Had to modify the male end a little -shorten it and then glue it together. Otherwise it is impossible to use the socket AND have the seat installed. Stupid!

The twin outlet can be fixed with e.g. a cable tie to a suitable point near or on the handlebar.

    Re: Cigarette Lighter

    Hi,

I've placed an aux. power socket on the flat bit of of the dash panel, (facing up) Because I thought space might be at a premium I used a smaller din type connector (as fitted to BMW's I believe) however I guess a standard lighter socket would work, however the problem being where I've mounted it, many lighter type plugs are quite long so could catch on the handlebars. I will take a photo later on and update this posting.

I'm currently putting a page covering this on my website, however it's still under construction but there is a (maybe) useful wireing diagram if you wanted to have the socket live only when the ignition is on using a relay.

I have fitted an Optimate Cigar Socket lead to my 700 and mounted it next to the ignition key. This gives me a dual use - trickle charge my battery using my Optimate or power my GPS unit. The wires are fed under the tank to connect to the battery leads with an in-line fuse.

I take it Russ, that you're using a standard 4 pin relay available in most car accessory shops. Yours looks a bit 'special', I've only seen those cheap black plastic ones.

Had one of those Optimate ones on the last bike, problem is, nothing fits it, i.e. phone chargers, battery chargers, etc.
So think I'll go the cigar lighter route this time.

Good question, it's a 5 pin relay, I just presumed it was a fairly standard off the shelf item, having never bought a relay as I've always had a few hanging around in an inherited box of car bits!

I think the cigar lighter size is the way to go too, if there's enough space. The smaller DIN socket means I need an adaptor lead but the plug is quite short.

Here's a couple of pics. of the location on mine as mention in the previous post.

I want to mount a marine cigarette power plug exactly like this on my TA.

Was thinking of left side... is the battery on the right?
