Kitting a Transalp up for off road

Ok got proper permission from Dad to let me take my bike off roading more

So i know i need crashbars before i take it off road really so there first on the list after i got my panniers and racks, the racks will offer rear protection.

So what else? not sure how strong the standerd bars are so maybe some after market ones, any ideas?

    Bar risers

Instead of buying a alloy sump guard i may strengthen mine with strips of alloy on the inside.

    Anything else?

The things I have on mine are:

    High touring screen
    Motad Crash bars
    African Twin Gear lever
    Heated grips
    Braded front brake hose
    Hagon rear shocks
    Metzler Tourance F/R
    Motor Cross front mud gaurd
    Rethal Dakar handle bars

    To do list:
    Braded rear hose
    Hagon progressive fork springs
    S/S exhaust

But as yet i never been off road on it since was thinking about playing on Beaulieu common before i got knocked off.

    Acerbis hand guards

I'm not sure about using panniers as rear protection though - could work out very expensive !

No not the actually panniers, i mean the pannier racks may help incase of a fall

    Hi Palmer,

1, crashbars, I've got the MoTechs but I'm not convinced they would offer that much protection in a fall.

2, tyres, I think you've got Distanzia's on yours, the same as mine, OK on gravel but pretty useless in mud, many talk very highly of Conti TKC-80's

3, serrated foot pegs, those standard rubber pegs get very slippy with muddy boots.

If going for a bit more serious off roading then consider a belly pan although your strips of ally may well be enough. Bar riser if you find the standard bars to low when stood up.

    Hi Palmer

There are some good solutions in bodgers corner that could save you a few quid:

    bar risers by Gotham

hand guards and bash plate by Piguglyshandydrinker

probably loads of other stuff but those were some I remembered ........

..... I understand you're pretty handy around a workshop! Neat sidestand foot!

03 TA Blue, Givi bars, centre stand, Givi Pannier racks, heated grips, MRA Vario - smooth!

    Also 4x4 with a towbar - and a trailer!
