Brake pad(s) squealing on rear disc

I've just changed the rear brake pads.

I've cleaned the caliper up and cleaned and lubricated the pistons, greased the backs of the pads, made sure the brake fluid holder is not over full, but still the horrible noise. One or both of the pistons looks like it is not going back down fully causing the rubbing.

    Any ideas to solve this?

Re: Brake pad(s) squealing on rear disc

I had this on my Varadero 125 from new, it sounded like I was twelve again and riding a bmx, brakes made a horrible rubbing squeaking noise everytime they were applied. The dealer said it's not unusual for new pads to do this and they would wear down in time and stop after checking for warped disks and binding break callipers. Sure enough it did after a few hundred miles.

    Could try some copper grease.

    Regards.

Check for a warped discs, if the squeal happens from light to medium brake pressure...

I'm assuming you've greased the retaining pin and the sliders?

It could also be a glazing on the pads, but most likely going to be pad vibration under light use.

Warped disks can often be felt through the lever, if the pedal feels like it's pushing back against your foot under light or medium pressure every wheel rotation then warping is a possibility. Similarly if [with rear wheel of the ground] the wheel spins and always stops at the same place the warped part of the disk is binding in the calliper. We aware though that the pads will brush lightly against the disk naturally, so it's important to check the point at which the wheel stops, it the position varies then the disk is probably not warped.

Ive had this trouble on my @. with EBC pads..

whip the pads off again and get a scalpel or a knife edge and take off the paint on the side of the actual pads... when they manufacture them - they spray them face down and the paint sticks to the sides and causes the horrible squealing..
