    Transalp 650 Front Wheel Fitting

Speedo has given up on my TA, think it must be the drive gear so will change it tonight.

I assume to take the wheel off, it's a case of

    Remove calipers
    Disconnect speedo
    Slacken the 4 clamp nuts
    Unbolt the axle

I have seen the sticky re the speedo drive gear replacement, so I will follow that.

Does anyone have the torque settings for putting the axle bolt and clamp bolts back on?

Also, do the clamp bolts have to be tightened in any particualr order?

Any information will be gratefully received.

    Martin.

There's a couple of things to watch out for when refitting the front wheel -

    1) There's a lug on the right hand fork leg that stops the speedo drive from turning. The corresponding lug on the speedo drive housing should be behind the lug on the fork leg to stop the speedo drive rotating forwards - if that makes sense.

    2) The axle holder on the bottom of the right fork leg has "UP" cast into it - so put it on the right way up. Get the hint?

    3) Tighten the axle to the recommended torque - 64 Nm (47 lbf-ft).

    4) Tighten the axle clamp bolts to 12 Nm (9 lbf-ft) - BUT, tighten the TOP ones first. It is very easy to snap the studs - so be careful.

    5) Refit the calipers and tighten to 33 Nm (25 lbf-ft).

    6) Tidy up.

    Job done.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

    Job done, speedo working.

There didn't appear to be much wrong with the old one, but there was next to no grease in the housing.

Bit dodgy getting the front wheel off with no centre stand, but managed with a length of 2" x 2" and axle stands.
