My bike got it's 600mile service on Saturday
I put it in at 09.00 and picked it up at 10.30
I would be surprised if much more than an oil change and inspection of tyres and a few bolts were done.
Anyway, the labour cost is free so if your book suggests that lots should be done then demand it.
I do about 10,000 miles per year so I will be doing 4,000 12,000 services myself and getting dealer to to 8,000 and maybe 16,000
I do not expect any warranty work necessary but if it was I would expect it to be done.

I'm convinced for my first service they wheeled it in and said
''yep, thats a motorcycle''

Wheeled mine into the dealer 1st service 650, sat down 20 mins heres your keys.... hmmmmm that was quick.. "it will be sorted under waranty" i was told??? on the way out realised that they had....guess what??.
yep given me someone elses keys !!! turn around hand keys back... hour or so later mine was ready... and i swear all they did was the basics... or "yep, thats a motorcycle." or oil, plugs etc. As soon as warranty expires think i will be taking it elsewhere or doing it myself..
Suppose if they stamp it to say they have done it... then..![]()
what do you expect for the first service? Not a lot, its basically a bolt check. Not a lot is going to wear out in 600 miles. I'd be worried if they had to do anything to be honest.
the 600 mile check is an oil and filter change and a check to see if anythings coming loose, for safety.
Yes, I think the main thing is changing the basic mineral oil (running-in oil) for clean oil (probably semi-syntheic) and changing the filter, so that the engine is free of all those microscopic flecks of metal which arise from early running in, and they check nothing major is loose. I think the first service is supposed to include valve clearances, but finding a bike on which that's actually been done is a bit like finding rocking-horse poo...
Just had my 600m service, (650) the tappets should be done, but they were going to do them while I waited, that means doing them hot and I began to suspect incompetence. It was easy to pursuade them to not adjust them. No one will care for your bike as much as you do, and it's a job within most peoples capabilities.
When my 700 had it's first dealer service they asked for it the evening before so it would be cold in the morning to do the valve clearances correctly. Any place doing a 700 first service while you wait is probably not doing it (takes a while) or doing it hot resulting in a bad job (as said). The first adjustment is the most important, many Honda's never need adjusting again if they're set right at this time.
