    Re: Transalp 700 gearbox issues

    Thanks guys.
The issue was not clunks or harshness - just that the next gear would not "pick up" at times (if you know what i mean).

Doug - you have hit the nail on the head. After so much seat time on the VFR, the changed gear lever position meant i was ocasionally dragging my toe on the lever after changing up and not allowing the lever to fully return - particularly on fast changes.
After reading your post and consciously addressing this in a 250km ride this morning, probelm solved.

    cheers pete

It's good to see that the game find Neutral has been included on the new 700 How many times can you push up and down before the neutral light comes on... seems a slight delay before it lights up ( I love Honda )

I used to play the find the neutral game with an Aprilia, after that the Honda is a piece'o'piddle

It would be an idea to check to make sure the prats in the workshop haven't overtightened the chain. It happens here a lot. I don't know what tension the 700 should have, but it will be a lot more than a sports bike, and that's what most mechanics here tend to give you if you don't watch them. A tight chain will ruin gearchange, and in long term much more than that...

I agree with the Stig. Check that chain. Sit on the bike and lean down and feel for play in the TOP run of the chain with your finger in the middle. You should have a small amount of play (not too much). It should not be really tight with your weight on the bike. After that put it in writing to your dealer so you both have it on record and ask to ride their demo again to see if that is the same.

as said before I find gearbox pretty sweet and finding neutral no issues ( not like my wifes GN100 !!)
I do tend to err on safe side re chain and make sure not a banjo string though so chain tension thoughts make sense. Last bike a 600 fazer and that was fine but first gear engaged each day ( esp if sat a few days ) had a fair clunk the Honda is great compared to this.
