    Tall screen, Givi or Honda?

The time has come to purchase a tall screen for my 700TA. Should I buy a Honda, or Givi one to save myself a few quid? Does anyone have any opinions?

Alternatively, is there another manufacturer out there who has a screen of the 700 I should consider?

I can only comment on the Honda screen. Mainly purchased because with my 5'11 height the standard screen was pushing bugs and rain straight into my face.

I read reports of turbulance with the givi screen so purchased the Honda one. Fitting is slightly fiddly as Honda supply you with extenders to do a proper job of holding the large screen on.

With my Shoei Xr1000 there was terrible turbulance caused by the air vents - which even with ear plugs left my ears ringing. However with the vents closed its so quiet you can hear the fuel injectors ticking even with ear plugs on. It keeps the wind off my chest, and in the rain only my arms get wet. No buffet to the head, its quieter than the standard screen but a different noise, lower frequency.

I love it but never ride without plugs in. So if someone says its too noisy at 80 for them it may be true.

I have the Honda screen too. Fitting is pretty straightforward - remove the standard screen, fit the extender brackets to the bike, fit the new screen to the brackets - job done. There are also a couple of little air deflectors which attach to the fairing, below and a little behind the indicator stalks.

Not only do the extender brackets hold the screen more securely, they also lift the screen up from the headlight and allow some airflow under the screen - presumably to reduce turbulence.

One other tip - I found that removing the whitish plastic edging strip around the tall screen does two things: 1. It looks much better. 2. It seems to be quieter without it - don't know if the strip adds to turbulence, but it seems plausible.

I never fitted the plastic edging as it looked so horrid!

People with the givi screen have experienced turbulence with it. Reports for the Honda one are good.
For me, as im coming from a naked hornet, the air protection from the ta700 is excellent, so no screen option

I like some air in my face...!!

Re: Tall screen, Givi or Honda?

These were my comments on the Givi Screen on an earlier thread:

    - Well made and half the price of the Honda tall screen. I paid £46 compared to £100 for the Honda item.

    - Easy to fit, which makes swapping screens over very easy. I only put mine on for long journeys.

    - Slightly lower than the Honda screen according to specs. from the Manufacturers.

    - I like the fact that it is a "smoke" coloured screen rather than clear - just a personal preference! I also like the curvature of the screen in relation to the lines of the bike, because I think the Honda screen makes it look like one of those Velocette Noddy bikes the police used in the 60's!

    - I had trouble at first with wind turbulence around my helmet from 45 mph which was very uncomfortable. After I changed my helmet from a Schubert to a Shoei Multitec it went away, the difference was amazing. I think someone has already identified in another thread that different helmets have different behaviours in the airflow - my experience supports that view.

    - I find that on a long journey the standard seat is better to use than the cut down one, because for me (I am 5' 7"), that extra height just makes the difference in comfort.

    - Cruising at motorway speeds is comfortable and it keeps the flies and bugs off in the summer.

    - No adverse effects on handling.

As I haven't tried the Honda screen I am still not in a position to comment on which one is best, I rather think it is down to personal taste. IMO the only way you can make the best decision for your style and riding needs is to try them both if you can and make your own choice .

Just bunged the MRA Vario touring screen on mine and it works fine.......... and it's adjustable so you can have a good fiddle

Pics of it here >> http://www.xrv.org.uk/photopost/show...75/ppuser/4255

    Just another option to consider.

If it is the 700 get the MRA VARIO as it looks better, if it is the 650 then the tall honda screen is better looking.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

Re: Tall screen, Givi or Honda?

I have the taller screen on my 650 and the other week the plastic surround tubing worked loose while I was out on a ride so I stopped and removed it. Since it was removed I think the wind noise/buffetting has been reduced so I have no re-fitted it. I have only done a few hundred miles but if I get a chance might go out one day and do a run with it fitted then same run with it removed to compare.
