Thread: Transalp 700 Heat shield screw

Mine buzzes a bit. I tentatively tightened the fasteners sometime ago ( being those mushroomy type of squishy fastener ) - reduced the buzz but didn't eliminate it.

Oddly enough, when I fired up the TA this morning, it rattled like a good 'un... the heat shield over the front cylinder exhaust was loose - with the rear bolt making a bid for freedom.

I lost another one of those screws, not the one previously loctited in place though. This time I found a replacement from my scrounge-box and put it in. OK it doesn't look as nice, but it's bright Zinc plated and you'll only notice it if you stare......

The black shield down behind the rear brake pedal on my bile was dropping paint so I had it replaced under warranty. A week later I noticed the central stud was missing so I phoned the dealer to tell them that maybe they forgot it.

"oh no bluff, it wasn't there when you brought the bike in, we were going to mention it but forgot"

Ao they replaced a warranty part but didn't think to secure it properly!

    Tw@s!!!!

So a bit fell off and they did not think to replace it under warranty, I agree with you Tw@s.

He most probably is referring to the chat-rooms where anything is possible.
This forum is full of bikers who take pride in their machines and like to pass on their advice to others.
I have owned several bikes from Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha and Honda.
Hondas used to be the better built of the lot but I have noticed the recent models are not up to the original standard, I do not think there will be many original 700's around in twenty years, unlike the 600 and Africa Twins.

Re: Transalp 700 Heat shield screw

Too true. Mine is just a year old (today I think!) and has never seen salt and not that much rain but the spokes are already 'tarnished'. I am going to wait till they are a bit worse then try and get them done before the warranty runs out.

Plenty of other bits are going the same way (front face of mirror stalks as you say) but will just put up with that and paint them with something decent in a year or two.

The way the price of bikes seem to be going they will have to sort out these 'quality' issues or expect a lot more warrany claims by disgruntled owners!

A lot of the quality control issues are apparently down to TA700's being built in the now-closed Spanish factory, according to a tame Honda dealer I know. They will now be built in the Italian facility, where the work practices are much closer to the Japanese plants. Hopefully this might cure the finish issues.
