I would like to respray the black exhaust heat shield but b4 I can take it off, the rear brake pedal needs to come off. My question is how and is it difficult?

It is difficult enough to remove the brake pedal. There are several threads here about doing it.

But I painted the shield of my 650 and it came out quite easily without having to remove the pedal.

So it must be the middle bolt that is behind your brake lever. The lever on my TA is set a bit higher so it does not obstruct access to the bolt.

The lever height is adjustable and it is far easier to adjust that than to remove the lever and, what's even more horrible, to reassemble it.

There is a locknut and an adjusting nut at the bottom of the link rod between the pedal rear end and the master cylinder. Loosen the locknut and turn the adjuster until you have access to the bolt.
