Numpty drivers now think i'm a copper!

Finally got my standard front mug guard arrive in the post today to replace the MX one that fell off. I bought a cheap white one off e-bay and was planning to spray it black to match the bike. But it turns out it is white with the reflective blue & Yellow Police markings on it still. So fitted it anyway thinking people will see me better at junctions if the front mud guard is reflective and went for a ride. Oddly enough a fair few people when you come up behind them with the headlight on and Hi-Viz waist coat seemed to slow down and take more notice of me.
So result they are obviously more keen to look out for possible coppers than normal bikers

'Spose its better to be a numpty that thinks you are a copper than a numpty that didn't see you in this case

But yeah, it is amazing how peoples behaviour often changes when they think a copper is about

Mate of mine rides a Pan, couple of months ago on the motorway he pulls aside a car and the driver is having his dinner at the wheel doing 120kmh, the driver clocks my mate in his hiviz jacket and white helmet and mistook him for a copper and promptly threw his dinner on the back seat....

my mate laughed so much he nearly come off and he still nearly wets himself when he tells the story of when he saw a driver throw..... a bowl of soup.!!!

I recently bought a high viz jacket ( Heine Gericke - awesome BTW ). The difference in people's attitude to you is incredible. Even if it only makes you a little more visible the fact that some people are second guessing - is this a copper or not - means at least they have clocked you.

Disadvantage is illustrated well by my experiences last night. Slow stop start traffic and there was a brand new audi TT ahead, behaving a little naughtily. Accelerating and braking hard, very close to car in front etc. As I was filtering up to some traffic lights he clocked me, and his driving style changed. Once past and he realised I wasn't one of our boys in blue - he was back to his old ways but trying to get past me at every opportunity. I always let people have their way in these situations, especially after 14 hours work dealing with 'the great british public', as you often get to wave goodbye at the next traffic lights anyway. So he over took on a roundabout coming off at the 12 o'clock exit, almost taking the nose off a car that was coming off at the 3 o'clock exit, thereby forcing himself into lane 2 of the exit which was blocked by a car turning right into a side junction. Not very impressive.

It's moments like that when you wish you had a vid camera on-board and you can drop a sd card with matey boys antics on, off at the local cop shop.

Dunno whether there is more traffic on the road, more eedjits or what, but the level of bad and poor agressive driving you see on the road has certainly gone up in recent years.

All down to the lack of an actual police presence on the roads and the proliferation of speed cameras!!

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Re: Numpty drivers now think i'm a copper!

Contraversial but I think speed cameras have their place. I think the aggressive driving is just a reflection of people's attitude as a whole. As a generalisation people are more self centred, insular, as far more aggressive. In day to day interactions people use aggression more and more as a tool to get their way, it is getting out of hand. The lack of respect for other people and their views is appalling. Driving is just one of the day to day activities through which people express their aggression. GB is pretty intensively populated and people feel they have to fight hard for their 'rights'. Whether its what school their kids go to, what they expect from the NHS or even what bit of the road they 'own'.

    .
Which jacket did you buy since looking at getting the HG CRUISE GTX DAYLITE JACKET? If so how do you find it?

As for police impression a friend suggested i put POLITE on the front of the bike in reflective letters to see how many people it catches out
