hi the afirca twin has much more ground clearance, bigger tank range and longer suspension travel, but unless your fairly well built with long legs you will struggle off road due to its size and wieght.
i have the transalp and it does all the off road my mate does on his africa twin, he says he would prefer the transalp off road.
only drawback with the transalp is the limited ground clearence, although iv never had many problems.
    hope this helps

The Africa has wayyyyyyyyyy more power than the alp (600 anyway), it's not just about the peak power, and has a much broader power curve plus a bigger difference in torque.

Got to be honest, I love my transalp 650 but find that my 750 AT just has a little bit more get up and go.

Power wise,(on paper) there is not so much in it.

    power; BHP/Kilo . . . . .TA = 0.239 . . . . . AT = 0.261

    torque; NM/Kilo . . . . . TA = 0.252 . . . . . AT = 0.261

The AT 750 just has a bit more of everything.

The TA 600 is still a good bike in it's own right.

    I ride a Transalp 600 and Africa Twin 750 (both RD04 + RD07a).

Yep, much torquier engine although maybe on paper it doesn't show up... top speed isn't that different, but the AT has better spec and more ground clearance (which I did find a problem with the TA ) The weight is quite high on the AT and it's taler than the TA so... fair play to Sharibee BTW is that 'love my Transalp 650' or 'loved....' Sharibee??
